” four photographs and a thought “

Venice, november 2018, photographs by Rinaldo Rasa

At the end of the day, like did Nicolò Machiavelli, I am thinking about the day. He met the Ancient thinkers but I am not sure I ever met one of them.

I was at the bus stop waiting for the next arrival and I was surprised when I seen a lot of mushrooms in the small meadow beside me. Mushrooms born quickly after a rain during this season overnight.

Time goes away as usual and these mushrooms perhaps are the same like in the Italian Renaissance. And perhaps also the mushrooms have the same living style that they had in the Renaissance. Then i thought about what is the place of humans in the Nature.

” young lions in a different way (in venice) “

Piazza San Marco , Venezia October 2 2018 , photographs by Rinaldo Rasa.

We spent years, centuries and millenia trying to figure out what is Art and what is not Art.

We spent years, centuries and millenia trying to figure out what is Art and what is not Art. Some philosophers thought it represents the decadence of the human being, others think it is the sublime. Marcel Duchamp has drawn the moustaches on the MonnaLisa, Filippo Marinetti futurist wanted to ruin Venice etc. Open a book of art history you can find the name of these artists as icona of modernity.

How ordinary people can become famous ? or rising up the daily life with a bit of emotion ? It is two methods : being a creative or a destroyer. The second method is represented by Herostratus, the man that has torched the Temple hence became famous during the centuries for this thing.

Last week a bunch of students of Accademia of Beaux Arts of Venice in the night have defaced the statue of a small lion ( il leoncino) of Sain Mark Square in Venice. They have painted with a spray can of red color the eyes of the statue. At the first time the hooligans were unknown then one of them confessed to police the thing.

In Italy nowadays it is not worst as in the past time, anyway it seems will be a good end. The Venice Mayor talked with the students and a staff of art restoration technicians say it is possible removing the acrylic paint from the eyes of the statue.

Again and again it is not be resolved if it is better to be a Leonardo da Vinci or an Herostratus.

” an industrial archeology community in venice “

snapshot taken by rinaldo rasa august 7 2018 venice, fondamenta burchiele

In this picture it is represented a glance about the industrial past of Venice. For several years in past century Venice was also an industrial city with a great appeal of investors. Of course times change hence today it is tourism the main appeal for employment. Old buildings are still here, maybe converted into hotels and government offices. On the right you see the factory with the original chimney, on the left you see the houses of workers. This housing represents the view of a community without strict interruption life and labour. It followed to an ideology of a thought between old handicraft and modern factory.

” guillame postel and the inquisition in venice “

Photographs by Rinaldo Rasa,

june 2018

Wandering through the streets, calle of Venice, nowadays crowded by people came from all around the world, the image of the old city seems being very romantic. But Venice in the times before the discovery of America was the super power in the Mediterranean Sea. Hence the Republic of Venice used the usual means of political power including the support to Inquisition. In this small square, called Campiello De La Cason, I found the stone memorial of an event happened in 1555. Written on the stone: “Dedicated to Guillame Postel French humanist arrested in 1555 by the Inquisition”.
