an inhumanity of the masses

Last Sunday afternoon in the Canal Grande in Venezia (Grand Canal in Venice) he drowned while the people on a vaporetto (waterbus) filmed and photographed with digital cameras the death of a man. This event is an example of the regression of humanity in this historic period. The man in the Canal was a colored immigrant desperate because he has not the green card. It seems that somebody yelled against him “nigger” and “you’re faking to drown”. After this villain words from the waterbus somebody threw a rod lifesaver. But it was too late. I must admit that if only one percent of this story is true that I am ashamed to be an Italian.

(Rinaldo Rasa)

“The caring Hand that even now tends the little garden as if had not since become a ‘lot’, but fearfully wards off the unknown intruder, is already that which denies the political refugee asylum. Now objectively threatened, the subjectivity of the rulers and their hangers-on becomes totally inhuman.” (Theodor Adorno)
